Microsoft announces release of Autopatch for businesses

As it’s well known, Windows’ parent company uses the second Tuesday of each month to release updates, which are intended to repair and patch any errors or failures in its operating systems and products. However, you have noticed that not all customers are compliant with these updates, especially those under the enterprise category. That is why it has been announced that in July of this year, it will officially launch its new function called Autopatch. Read the details in the following article.

Autopatch is the new Microsoft feature

Seeking ways to keep Microsoft systems up to date, especially those used by businesses, the Redmond tech giant announced that as part of its Windows Enterprise E3 it will activate a feature called Autopatch. It will work as follows, being applied based on 4 development rings:

  • The first phase or ring will use a small group of devices to run the updates, which will be tested and scanned to see if the updates and patches have done their job.
The second ring represents 1% of the overall update on endpoints.
The third and fourth rings are known as the fast and broad, respectively, which represent 9% and 90% of the overall update.

As explained by Lior Bela, senior product marketing manager at Microsoft, in the statement released to the company last week:

“This service will keep Windows and Office software on enrolled endpoints up-to-date automatically, at no additional cost. The second Tuesday of every month will be ‘just another Tuesday.’… Updates are applied to a small initial set of devices, evaluated, and then graduated to increasingly larger sets, with an evaluation period at each progression. The outcome is to assure that registered devices are always up to date and disruption to business operations is minimized.”

Windows Autopatch has been made to work with Windows 10, 11, and 365 for Enterprise operating systems. For now, Server and 365 for business are out of Autopatch’s scope. However, it is expected that if it is successful, its use will expand to more services. What is sought with this new function is to save the experts and IT departments of companies from always updating, since Autopatch will take care of everything.
